FC Barcelona could be close to signing Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, according to reports in the Catalan city.
Mundo Deportivo’s cover story today claims that the Uruguayan will be the big signing of the summer:
“We revealed this week that the Blaugrana have made signing a striker an objective, and Suarez is one of the candidates, along with Higuain, Van Persie, Hazard, Aguero and Reus. Mundo Deportivo has been informed that the Liverpool payer is the chosen one, and negotiations are already at a very advanced stage”.
The Catalan daily also claims that while Suarez has a buyout clause in the region of €85m it ‘would reduce considerably – by €20m – if Barcelona or Real Madrid want to sign him, as is the case’. The paper insists that Liverpool’s strong interest in Alexis Sanchez could work in Barcelona’s favour.
Finally, MD reminds readers that not only does the Liverpool forward’s wife have family in Castelldefels, a coastal town just south of Barcelona, but his agent also happens to be Pep Guardiola’s brother, Pere, so there are several key factors that could help Barca in the quest to sign him.
