Kidnapper Of Commissioner's Mother Demands N10 Million As Ransom


The kidnappers of the mother of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Surv Furoebi Akene has demanded N10m ransom before they will release her.

The kidnappers, who had earlier demanded the resignation of the commissioner from the state executive council were said to have back down Wednesday and demanded N10m to set her free.


Though the police, it was learnt, had deployed men to the creeks and waterways of the state in search of the abducted 77 year old woman, a family source told Saturday Vanguard that they have taken their case to God for His divine intervention.

The source said the: “they contacted our family demanding N10m. Though the police is working round the clock to secure her release we are also not relenting as we have taken the matter to God to touch the heart of the kidnappers to set mama free unconditionally.”

Madam Patimi Akene, was seized and whisked away last Saturday by six armed men who stormed her country home by the waterfront at the riverside Fonibiri town in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.

The victim was said to be returning from a night vigil when she was seized by the the gunmen who reportedly contacted her son demanding his resignation from the state executive council as condition for her release fueling speculation that it has political undertone.

The victim’s son, Survey Akene confirmed the development but declined further comment so as not to jeopardize on going effort to secure her release.

Contacted, the state police public relations officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said the police is on top of the situation.
