Our man in Sao Paulo, STAN COLLYMORE, gives us his verdict on the Three Lions...
Joe Hart: Twice almost caught out by a Luis Suarez corner, but could do little with either of the Uruguayan hitman's goals. 6
Glen Johnson: Did brilliantly to set up the equaliser for Rooney. As usual, often caught out defensively. 5
Phil Jagielka: Lost Suarez for his first goal. Ball watching for his second. Never looked comfortable with Suarez and Edinson Cavani around. 5
Gary Cahill: Worked his socks off but, like Jagielka, failed to spot the danger for Uruguay's winner. 6
Leighton Baines: Proved once again he is not the heir apparent to Ashley Cole. Luke Shaw is. Get the Southampton youngster in now. 5
Raheem Sterling: Contained well by the Uruguayan defence, the Liverpool youngster failed to repeat his stunning performance against Italy. Subbed midway through the second half. 6
Jordan Henderson: Sat far too deep alongside Liverpool teammate Gerrard and was wasteful on the ball. 5
Steven Gerrard: Has been brilliant for England over the years, but his international career must surely be coming to an end. Arguably to blame for both of Uruguay's goals. 4
Wayne Rooney: Ran himself into the ground and finally broke his World Cup goal drought. England's biggest threat. 7
Danny Welbeck: Worked hard as always. But poor touch often let him down and was not much of an attacking threat. 5
Daniel Sturridge: Sharp and lively. Didn't create enough though. 6
Subs:
Ross Barkley: High energy as always, upped the tempo when he came on. 6
Adam Lallana: Along with Barkley gave England a boost. Another who must start against Costa Rica. 6
Rickie Lambert: Given just a few minutes at the end. Should have been brought on far earlier. 5
