#10 Frightful Mines of Paris
The scary Catacombs of Paris is also famous for terrors. These mines had deposits of various minerals.
Now that the mines are deserted, they are unsafe, unkempt and unpatrolled. Legends report about ancient cults patrolling the parts. The tunnels are about 600 kilometers long. Those who enter the place can get lost easily.
Some caves are so narrow that it is difficult to even crawl. Sound is absorbed completely and even if someone close screams for help, it is unlikely that it will be heard. Adventurers should always take along a friend, flashlights, batteries and most importantly pray before entering.
#9 Terror Filled Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum
The Tuol Sleng Genocide museum converted from a high school and later to a security prison. Prisoners, most of them former prisoners, were tortured and murdered in this place. The ghosts of about 17,000 individuals who were victimized in the museum continue to live there and innumerable odd things are reported there. It is believed that a large number of prisoners, many foreigners, were forced to accept severe punishment for crimes not committed by them. The prisoners were treated worse than slaves. There were forced to follow strict orders failing which they were subject to electric shocks and continuous lashes.
#8 The Shades of Death Road
The road (about 7 miles long) is known as the Shades of Death road. Many theories are beginning to go around due to the name. The name actually arose from highwaymen who would kill passers-by at will. The locals retaliated by killing these killers and putting up their corpses to ward off others. This road is known for frequent car accidents. Wildcats are also known to frequent the place. The murdered highwaymen haunt the place. End of the road is common to apparitions and other disturbing events. Recently some photographs containing disturbing images were found. They later disappeared suddenly mysteriously.

This castle in Ireland has a very gruesome past. The O’Carrolls took over the place from the builders O’Bannons. The death of one O’Carroll led to a terrible rivalry among siblings. One brother who was a priest met a brutal death in the hands of his brother. Prisoners were often executed in this place. There are many rumors that this castle is home to a large number of spirits. A violent beast smelling of sulphur and rotting flesh called Elemental also prowls around. There was a spiked dungeon wherein prisoners were thrown and left to die – a truly frightening castle.

Another mental asylum features in the terror list. The Byberry state hospital was known for patient ill-treatment. All sorts of patients were present – criminally insane to mentally challenged inmates. The hospital closed down in 1990 as it had become a nuisance. Many arsonists, Satanists, vandals used this place for dark activities. Though no haunting is present, the unsavory happenings frequented at dark. Many patients were reportedly killed by fellow inmates cruelly. One killer had a victim’s body strewn everywhere and the skull was being played with by other patients. These incidents happened when the hospital was about to be closed.

In a recent episode of a TV show – Destination Truth, these two ghost towns featured prominently. Founded initially as a mine (saltpeter) – the Great Depression resulted in total abandonment of these. The workers were reportedly treated as slaves in this place. There is a strong rumor that the dead souls of La Noria cemetery roam the town. Photographs taken reveal ghostly images. Nearby residents dread to enter these places. Though deserted, the place is filled with ghastly noises of young and old alike. There are open graves present. Whether it is real ghosts or grave robbers – the mystery still remains.

This place was primarily an asylum for lunatics. The name was given after Ohio took over the property. This asylum had hundreds of patients – the hospital claimed that epilepsy and masturbation was the main reason behind the insanity. The story is told about a female patient aged about 54 years who had run away and went missing. About 6 weeks later her corpse was found in an unused ward. She was naked when she died. Her body had decomposed and exposure to the sun has caused an irremovable stain on the floor – visible today too. Her ghost haunts the place.

Stull – a quiet and dark place is a small town in Douglas County. The entire population amounts to a mere 20 people. Stories are told about a man who accidently burnt his son in the farm. Another man supposedly went missing and was later found hanging on a tree – ever since this place has been an intense topic for supernatural believers. The cemetery is center to many eventful happenings at dusk. There was an old unused church that was also demolished. Various rumors abound and the place has got the status of being haunted and unsavory events do take place

Helltown is located in the Northern part of Ohio (Summit County). In the early 1970’s the government wanted to buy this place – a move which led to mass eviction. A national park was to come up and hence the houses were demolished. It is a scary drive even in daylight. The local fire-fighting department has also practiced here – intensifying the eeriness. There is a steep drop off present in the Stanford Road that ends abruptly – this is aptly termed “End of the World”. Ghosts are known to frequent here. A tree that moves is also spoken about in the region.

Karl Riddle owned the place during the 1920’s. Riddle had an employee name Joseph who met death by hanging in the House. This incident happened inside the attic. Now Joseph hated men for some unknown reason. Hence any man entering the place is attacked by the ghost of Joseph. Constant movement of furniture is also frequently noticed. There are quite a few places inside the house that are also found to be haunted.
