A bomb has reportedly gone off in Potiskum, the second largest town in Yobe state.
The explosion occurred on Monday, November 3 and was carried out by a suicide bomber who detonated a vest.
Witnesses said that the attacker was believed to be targeting members of the Shiite group, Islamic Brotherhood of Nigeria who were celebrating Ashura, a day when Shias mourn the death of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
The attack is being blamed on Boko Haram due to their activities in that region and because the group classifies the Shias as non-Muslims.
A resident of the town, Adamu Mohammed told Premium Times that about 20 people were killed in the blast which occurred at the Faydia Islamic school.
He said:
“My sister lost three of her sons in the blast.”
This comes after a bomb went off at the Central Park in Gombe on October 31 killing a yet unconfirmed number of people.
Story developing.
