Join Fight Against Insurgency, Okupe Tells Nigerians

Doyin-OkupeThe senior special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on public affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, has again appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to join the fight against insurgency.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, when he paid a condolence visit to the management of New Telegrapgh newspaper over the death of Suleiman Bisalla, its managing editor, northern operations, Dr Okupe expressed concerns that the insurgents were killing ordinary innocent Nigerians.

Incomprehensible Activities
He, however, assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would not rest on its oars in confronting the menace of the insurgents.

“The activities of Boko Haram are generally incomprehensible. We do not understand what it stands for fully. We do not understand what they really want or know who they really are. All we see is violence perpetrated against our people. No denomination or class, age, religion or ethnicity. At first, we thought it was Muslims fighting Christians.  Then we thought Christians were retaliating. Boko Haram is fighting the center of Nigeria. How can we account for the pains that are being inflicted on ordinary Nigerians? He questioned.

In his response, the Deputy Managing Editor, northern operations of the New Telegrapgh, Mr Louis Achi, pledged the support of the media in the fight against terrorism.

The late Bisalla, until his death, was the managing editor, northern operations of the New Telegrapgh.

He was among the 24 persons killed at last Wednesday’s bomb blast at Emab Plaza in Abuja.
