Martin Onovo Responds To Okupe Explanation For Failing To Rescue The Chibok Girls

After Dr. Doyin Okupe, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria where he explained the government’s failure to rescue the Chibok girls for over 7 months by classifying the abduction with other disasters around the world – insinuating that they were inevitable and that even the developed countries were grappling with it. Okupe said that the long wait for the return of the Chibok girls was to ensure that they were returned alive and not in “body bags”.

He then insinuated that all those who agitated for the girls’ immediate release had “hatred” for President Jonathan and that the “hatred” was because of President Jonathan was from a minority tribe.

Okupe’s staement has generated quite a bit of response from Nigerians around the world. One major response is that of the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Chief Martin Onovo.

You should know that the NCP is the party founded by late Lawyer and activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi back in 1994.

Onovo was invited to an interview by CORE DIGEST and in his usual manner he went straight to the point.

Onovo said: “It is unfortunate; the level of intellectual depravity … he is using bad examples to justify the ineffectiveness of the government he is serving. Why can’t he cite any good examples? Cameroon our next door neighbor: 3 of their people were kidnapped. They stormed book haram, killed about 17 of them (and) rescued their people alive. He did not mention that. He is mentioning only disasters, so he is telling to subconsciously expect only disasters from his government.”

He also spoke quite plainly about the NCP’s vision for minimum wage, and petroleum.
