Three members of a notorious robbery gang that specialised in snatching cars from residents of Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah axis of Lagos State, have been arrested by anti-robbery policemen attached to Bar Beach Police Station.
Vanguard gathered that the robbers, who have been terrorizing the area for a long time met their Waterloo separately on Saturday and Monday nights when they snatched two taxi cabs from their owners at gunpoint.
Sources disclosed that the bandits had attempted to use the snatched cabs to steal exotic cars.
A source, who spoke with Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said one of the suspects, Rasheed Yusuf, 20, was arrested when the anti-robbery policemen on patrol, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP
Adegoke Fayoade, accosted the gang after they snatched a taxi from it owner on Idejo Street, Victoria
Island and recovered the taxi, but two other gang members managed to escape.
The source also added that on Monday night, the two fleeing bandits, identified as Ade Yemi, 22, and Toyin Ajayola, 22, returned to Victoria Island with a taxi they snatched at Orile Igamu area.
The anti-robbery policemen intercepted them at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, while they were driving against traffic.
It was gathered that as the policemen tried to stop them, they escaped towards Cowrie Bridge outward Victoria Island, but were blocked by another team of policemen who were on stop and search at a pin down point by the bridge.
The robbers were said to have jumped out the vehicle, shooting indiscriminately in their bid to escape but the policemen shot them on the legs and arrested them.
However, sources further disclosed that the robbers confessed to several robberies within the mentioned area and one locally made pistol cut to size, assorted charms, face masks and five cartridges were recovered from them.
