Boko Haram Destroys Bridge Linking Maiduguri-Damaturu - Biu

Some gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect weekend planted Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs under the popular Madafuma bridge linking the 185km Biu-Damboa-Maiduguri federal road. The explosion damaged the bridge leaving motorists and passengers stranded.

The road has remained a death trap for the past two years with terrorists laying ambush for motorists and passengers,  killing hundreds and kidnapping others.  This has forced the abandonment of the road by people going to  Biu, Garkida, Numan, Shani and Taraba who have resorted to going through Gombe State, spending up to 12 hours instead of  the 5 hour journey from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The bombing of the bridge according to Mallam Musa Yakubu,  a resident of Madafuma village,  took place on Saturday at about 2:00am.

He said “we heard a loud bang on Saturday. Sunday morning when we gathered in Madafuma village to go round our surroundings , we found out that the bridge linking us with Biu local Government Area and
Maiduguri has been blown off, all motorists heading to Maiduguri from Biu especially long vehicles had no option than to go back to Gombe.

A truck loaded with tubers of yam from Taraba and Benue states according to residents of Biu had to return to Biu on Sunday and take the Gombe-Potiskum- Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
