Ex-Oyo NURTW Boss Arrested!

Former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oyo State branch, Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, has been arrested by the police.

Lamidi was declared wanted by the police in 2011 before his arrest early Saturday morning at his Olodo, Ibadan residence. It was learnt that policemen from Ikeja, Lagos effected Lamidi’s arrest.

On June 4, 2011, Lamidi and his rival in the union, Lateef Akinsola, also known as Tokyo were involved in an  attack in Ibadan, which led to the death of some  people.

It was not clear if the Oyo State Police Command was informed of his arrest but it was learnt that Lamidi was taken to Lagos immediately after his arrest.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor said the command was unaware of the arrest and that there was no information about his whereabouts.

However, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party and High Chief of Ibadanland, Senator Lekan Balogun, said the arrest was political.

Querying the reason behind the arrest, Balogun said Lamidi and Akinsola had appeared before at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on the instance of Minister of State for the Federal Capital Authority, Jumoke Akinjide,  and were set free.
